5 months ago – Tue, Nov 11, 2025 at 05:23:55 AM

Hello again!

It's been a while, sorry about that! Had a shift in day job and a cross-country move that delayed this Kickstarter launch. But we're all settled in and ready to go now :)

Click the image to check out the campaign

PLUS, if you are a DUNGEON CRAWLER CARL fan, we’ve snagged a variant cover by Dave Law, the ridiculously talented artist who illustrates the cover art for the Soundbooth Theater full audiocast version of the Dungeon Crawler Carl series (and the guy who did the super cool Green Day Dookie homage). He’s also the artist behind the awesome comics California, Inc. and The Space Odditorium.

Here’s his cover:

And the superstar artists keep coming. We’ve got one last variant by Jake Smith / Dead Gremlin Comix. His series Robo Wolf is everything you could ask for from a The Warriors style 80s action movie, but infinitely more over the top and funny.

The campaign for MANDRILL P.I. Issue #8 is live, and it would make me the happiest author in the whole world if you would click on the images above and back the book.

The action gets heavier and plane-ier this issue (get it? because there’s an airplane in this issue…) between Mandrill P.I. and the mysterious luchador, “El Codo” Jefe Jaguar. We’re aiming to get to raise $2,999 by tomorrow, and it couldn’t happen without you.

You can check out the campaign at this link: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/brimmage/mandrill-pi-issue-8?ref=8xw6jm

Plus, in this story arc, we’re making the comic BIGGER. As we raise the stakes on Mandrill P.I., we’re also raising page count up to 28! (previous issues were 24-pages each).

There are tons of ridiculously cool rewards, and as always, some awesome variant covers.

Plus, there are some secret discounts for past backers!

Here is a discount on the regular cover: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/brimmage/mandrill-pi-issue-8?secret_reward_token=d152cac4

And here is a discount on the bundle of all variants: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/brimmage/mandrill-pi-issue-8?secret_reward_token=80782d02

Thanks again for backing in the past, and I can’t wait to send you more MANDRILL P.I. in the future!

We're fulfilled!
6 months ago – Mon, Oct 13, 2025 at 04:17:36 PM

Great news, everybody!

Aside from 14 people who have not yet filled out their surveys, all rewards have been shipped (if you're one of these 14 and you need to recover your survey, simply click here )

Tracking info was sent via email from Backerkit. When you receive your rewards, if you're inclined toward social media, I'd love it if you posted pics of you enjoying your copies and tag them with #mandrillpi

If you didn't get your tracking info or you're missing anything in your shipment, please reach out right away and I'll ensure it's made right ASAP.

If you ordered a T-Shirt, it will arrive separately from the rest of your rewards (same thing if you ordered a copy of Concrete Arcanum).

Also, I sent digital rewards a few weeks ago via Backerkit email, but if you can't find the email or if you misplaced your links, please reach out and I'll resend you the links.

Thanks again for supporting this book! You're the best :)

IN OTHER DELIGHTFUL NEWS:

Carlos has completed the art for Issue 8 and is hard at work on Issue 9. Here's the unlettered Issue 8 main cover by Carlos:

Click the cover image to sign up to be notified on launch!

The action ramps up this issue as our titular hero and the mysterious "El Codo" Jefe Jaguar continue their action-packed encounter. Will Mandrill P.I. rescue the missing children? There's only one way to find out! And that's to continue reading along :)

Click the image above to sign up for notification on launch. We would love for you to follow our pre-launch Kickstarter page. Clicking the link below and then tapping "Notify me on launch" on the Kickstarter page will help ensure we have the strongest launch possible.

Note: clicking the "notify" button in NO WAY obligates you to back the project on launch, but it does help with the Kickstarter algorithms and is vital to the project's success. And this author will love you forever if you do so :)

Thanks so much, and I'll be back soon with more news!

Surveys Incoming!
7 months ago – Tue, Sep 09, 2025 at 06:42:50 PM

Good News: BackerKit has approved the fulfillment survey!

It's super important that you complete your survey ASAP when you see it show up in your inbox. Among other things, this is how I'll know what name to use in the "thank you" section in the back of the book (and, of course, where to send your rewards...).

  • I'm going to need to set a deadline of September 16 if you want to ensure your name gets placed in the "thank you" section in the back of the digital version (if you don't respond by then, I'll just use your first name or Kickstarter handle--no worries!); feel free to reach out if getting it done by then will be a problem.

Just a heads up that the first thing BackerKit requires is something called a Smoke Test, which is where a random 5% of backers across all pledge levels get the survey link. This is to ensure that it works properly.

Thus, some of you will receive the email with a special link to your BackerKit survey immediately, while the rest of you will get yours about a day later. Please check your spam/junk boxes if you don't see the email in your Inbox in the next couple days.

Also, there’s no need to create a BackerKit account to fill out your survey. Just click the link to fill out the survey when you receive the email. Answer the questions about your rewards, provide shipping information (if you chose physical items), and purchase add-on items if there are any that you fancy.

Please fill out the survey as soon as you see it come through. This way I can begin fulfilling orders right away (the physical books are supposed to be arriving at my place from Comic Impressions next week sometime!). If you notice anything wonky or any unexpected shipping charges, please reach out to me ASAP. My email is [email protected]

Thanks again for backing this book! We're on track to fulfill the digital rewards before the end of the month. I can't wait to send them your way!

I'll be back soon with another update, but until then, my favorite part of these updates: highlighting other projects you may be interested in.

IMMORTAL COIL by GERALD VON STODDARD

Yes, that Gerald Von Stoddard. The one who drew the ridiculously cool variant cover for MANDRILL P.I. Issue #7!

Click the cover image to check it out

What it's about:

Welcome to Immortal Coil - a reimagining of Norse mythology through the lens of eldritch horror, set in a modern world teetering on the brink of cosmic oblivion. With Loki's return and a plot to unleash Nyarlathotep's catastrophic power, the story becomes a thrilling battle between divine bloodlines and cosmic horrors, with the fate of the last remaining realm of Earth at stake.

The opening issue of Immortal Coil #1 reveals that the Norse gods have secretly survived Ragnarok and made Earth their final home, hidden among humans. With Odin's death at Loki’s hands, Hel awakens to assist her father in unleashing Nyarlathotep's power. With Loki's plan in action, Odin's grandchildren—living as humans—must awaken to their true birthright as Gods, in hopes of stopping Loki before the mortal and Immortal worlds collapse.

My friend Rob is back with another issue of Snow Paw!

What it's about:

Cirilla (Cirray) MacKinlay is a strong-willed farm girl, born and raised in the Scottish Highlands during the 19th century, who dreams about a life of adventure. Upon discovering her Pureblood Monoki werewolf lineage, Cirray’s eyes are opened for the first time to the existence of Supernatural beings and creatures of Fantasy. With the aid of Silver Mane, a fellow Pureblood Monoki, Cirray must find her place in the world while training to master her lycanthropy in order to battle the Dark Covenant of the European region, led by the malevolent Mongrel Monoki, Grim Fang.

Cirray MacKinlay is Snow Paw!

BUBBLE GUM RAZOR by TRAVIS GIBB

Click the cover image to check it out

BUBBLE GUM RAZOR is a razor-sharp thriller where true crime turns deadly real.

Kenji Thompson built his reputation exposing monsters on his hit podcast, Malevolent Killers—but now the monster might be him. Three years ago, he obsessed over a chain of brutal murders across three major Florida cities, a case that froze in the shadows with no suspect caught. Now, as Kenji records the final season of his show, the nightmare reignites—new murders in the same cities, staged with chilling precision… and every clue points directly at him.

Print Proofs Have Arrived!
7 months ago – Tue, Aug 26, 2025 at 07:01:14 PM

Hello again!

Just wanted to send out a quick update to let you know that print proofs have arrived from the printer!

They look fantastic, and I've given the printer the green light to begin production. I'll keep you updated as the printer ships them my way and fulfillment begins.

Speaking of fulfillment ...

I am working in Backerkit as we speak to get the surveys ready to go. I'm hoping to get these sent your way by early next week (after which I'll begin sending out digital rewards).

And before we sign off, a reminder about a contest that's still open (until Thursday):

I'm giving away a free copy of the delightful book The Oddly Pedestrian Life of Christopher Chaos by James Tynion IV and Tate Brombal in the latest issue of my newsletter, The Omninaut

Click the image to head to The Omninaut

It’s a super fun story with ridiculously good art, and as a backer of this issue of MANDRILL P.I., it's super simple for you to potentially snag a copy. What it’s about:

Meet teenage mad scientist Christopher Chaos. For all his life he knew he was different. His brilliant mind works in ways that defy logic and enable him to do things that push him beyond his peers. Unfortunately, these abilities have also caused great pain in his personal life--leading others to fear him and leaving Christopher with profound loneliness and guilt.

[click here] for the newsletter entry.

Thank you again for backing MANDRILL P.I. You're the best, and I can't wait to send this book your way!
